Mary Rose Drescher is from British Columbia, Canada, and recently received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mount Allison University , New Brunswick.

Influenced by such artists and philosophers as: Gustav Klimt, David Hockney, Hundertwasser, Whistler, Oscar Wilde, Plato, Schopenhauer, and the Buddha, to name a few, Mary Rose’s aesthetic aims revolve around Beauty, Truth, and Impermanence.

Beauty is becoming a lost element in contemporary art.  If art does not open the viewer’s eyes with beauty, be it with harmony of color, line or composition, any message that is imbedded in the work will be lost.  If the viewer feels assaulted, he/she becomes defensive and closed.  The purpose of the art then, which is to communicate, is rendered useless.”

With these thoughts in mind, Mary Rose’s abstract work is an appeal to the viewer’s senses, and instinctive emotions as opposed to the intellectual mind.  Like in music, the abstract painting changes meaning along with the perceptions of the viewer.  There is no grounding point, no permanent meaning, abstract is open.

Currently Mary Rose Drescher’s work can be viewed in her Studio at the Fire Hall Gallery in Rossland, B.C.
